It has just been reported that Colorado lost 100,000 jobs in 2009. Many of these jobs were good solid middle class jobs and higher end middle class jobs. Political hacks and government economists are reporting signs of optimism for 2010 but their reports are not convincing and their evidence is more hope than fact. Businesses are either unable or unwilling to borrow so the banks are losing solvency. Federal regulators are going after local banks with a vengeance even though it was the large Wall Street banks, now flush with bailout cash, that caused all the mortgage and real estate problems. Obama, Bernanke, and Geithner are floundering, dumb struck and unable to revive the American economy. They just keep printing, borrowing, and spending tax payers money – and accomplish nothing. Our jobs and our production infra-structure keeps migrating overseas.

 

As our economic base relocates to China, India, and South America our service industries close their doors and leave staring blank store fronts in their wake. Much of the cash left in the local economy the local, state, federal governments are legislating tax increase to drain that cash off the private sector. The new health care bill will severely punish small business employers so the business people I speak to are either not hiring or are investigating putting their employees on 1099’s so they can avoid the taxes and the additional health care costs.

 

It seems that if the powers that be wanted to destroy the economy then everything they are doing makes perfect sense; if, on the other hand, they want to revive the economy everything make no logical sense at all!

Zoning is a process whereby the municipal government divides up the private landholdings of the citizens into districts and restricts the land uses within each district by regulations about structural design and architecture, and the prescribed legal uses permitted for each district.

At the last count every state was running a major deficit except North Dakota who still believes in true Milton Freidman Reganomics. The same crazy wanton spending that the Feds carried out on the national level the State governments carried out on a local level. Like the Federal government everything from education to medicare that the government got involved with they completely and totally screwed up.

 

Our schools are now 49th in the world and major cooporations like IBM said they will no longer hire American graduates because they are not as competent as the Indian students. The only medical business that is thriving is Lasik and cosmetic surgery. In the last 10 years Lasik and Cosmetic technology has boomed and all the prices have come tumbling down; and why not, these two areas of medical practice are not insured by health insurance or Medicare. This is the overwhelming trend – get the government out and the market will succeed and produce income a thousand fold.

 

Now the Federal and State governments are not cutting costs but raising taxes. We need to realize that the government produced nothing. The bureaucrats that run the government, whether the democrats win or the republicans, are in business for themselves and answer to no one-they especially do not answer to the citizens. This system has failed in everything from education to delivering a letter to someone on the other side of town

 (the Post Office is bankrupt but Fedx, UPS, Airborne are all surviving)!

WINDOW BASICS FOR EVERGREEN COLORADO NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION

 

One of the most essential components of any home is the windows. Windows are the light and breathe of the house and can either add tremendously or detract from the look and feel of any home. There are two important factors that companies use to rate windows: the U-factor and the SHGC or low-E factor.

 

The U factor rates the window frame more than the glass. About 20 to 30 % of a window unit is made up of frame and it is the frame that establishes, in no small part, the effectiveness of the window. The frame is rated by the U-factor, which is the reciprocal of the R-factor used for insulation. The U-factor measures the flow of non solar heat through the window unit. It is the rate of conduction of heat through the window. Although the unit is rated in several different places around the frame, the important rating is for the whole window. The lower the factor, the better the window, and the more expensive the unit. A good factor would be around .14 or so and will range as high as 5.0 for inexpensive windows.

 

The other critical factor is the low-E rating which measures the ability of the glass to reflect heat back into the interior if the home, while filtering out the ultra violet rays that produce no solar heat but bleach out the interior finishes and furniture. The low-E rating is defined as SHGC or Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and should be .50 or better, with the ideal being 1.0.
