WHAT’S BROKEN AND HOW DO WE FIX IT FOR EVERGREEN COLORADO REAL ESTATE THINKERS
The headline this mourning is “Seven Die in College Shooting.” The report details how a student at a small Christian college in Oakland California simply stood up and started shooting at his fellow students yesterday. No motive was given for the attack but seven are confirmed dead and three other were wounded but expected to survive. This is just the latest tragedy in what seems to be an ever recurring litany of mindless acts of violence in our schools by a shooter who has little of no relationship with his victims.
We all remember the massacre at Columbine in Littleton Colorado, and the violent deaths at Virginia Tech; but what is the cause of such tragic violence? This is a phenomena that began a few decades ago and seemingly is not going to stop. The Columbine killers, Harris and Klebold, wore T-shirts exalting evolution claiming that life was “survival of the fittest.” Others blamed the culture of the schools where social cliques demonize and ostracize certain students and bully them. The worship of violence in movies, TV, and video games certainly can bear much of the blame. Pumping anti-depressants into students may engender violent episodes, while a yearning for publicity and recognition has also been suspected as a culprit in these senseless murders. But all these so-called reasons or influences really mask the true reasons behind this barbaric feckless savagery.
The true cause is that America has seized to teach its children true spiritual moral truths. We have drummed all godly instruction out of our schools and, like the bulling at the schools, we are hell-bent on demonizing anyone who claims any godly spiritual commitment. At work or in social encounters we can talk about any subject except eternal redemption and spiritual beliefs. We can spread the gospel of sports, the gospel of the sexual revolution, the gospel of progressivism, the gospel of politically correct jargon, the inane gospel of self righteous diversity, the gospel of investment, the gospel of evolution, and the gospel of intellectual apathy; but the gospel of religious salvation or the gospel of Christ is anathema to the immoral godless culture America has fallen victim too.
Without a strong heartfelt commitment to a God who will judge the thoughts and intents of man’s heart there really is no reason to do the right thing. If there is no day of reckoning then there is no incentive to act morally. When our moral fortitude is eroded and considered foolish and ignorant, then we set ourselves up for atrocities like mindless violence, abortions, holocausts, rampant divorces, disintegration of the family, and yes random killings in our schools and colleges. We deny death and the ultimate experience of our lives: viz. Eternal Bliss with the God who created us and endowed us with our inalienable life. If we absolutely believe that our creator endowed us with a right to life then life will not end with death but our right to life will ensure our continuing existence beyond the grave.
But existence is not a guaranteed heavenly rapture but first divine judgement; only then will the righteous be welcomed into the presence of God. Those who ignored God, ignore His precepts, or ignore His justifying grace; those who never witnessed about God, never glorified Him, never spent the time to find Him and get to know Him, or lived as though He didn’t exist and had no real effect on their lives, and lived a life of actual or effective godlessness will be judged not worthy to spend eternity in the presence of a Holy God.
This Godly life will inspire people to shun violence, to love your neighbor as yourself, to do good and avoid evil whether someone is watching or not. If you love the Lord your God with all you heart, soul, mind, and strength then goodness and truth will flow from God through you to the world around us. Only then will America once again be a peaceful place where our children are safe in our schools; only then will we be able to take away the metal detectors, only then will “God Bless America.”
