All of the bank owned homes I have seen listed are “as is” listings indicating that the bank will take no responsibility for the condition of the property. This should be a flag to the buyer that care must be taken to insure that they are not buying a headache.

 

To many times I have seen young couples buy a problem property not realizing how much work and how much money will be required to fix up a home. The net result is that they will spend more money than the neighborhood comps, or they will spend all of their time and money for several years just to get the home to the condition that other homes in the neighborhood are at without spending their live working for sweat equity.

 

My advice is that if you don’t know how to renovate a home, if it is not your business, if you have little or no experience working construction then buy a home that just needs paint and redecorating not renovating. Don’t play the banks game and buy their problem and make it you own.
